Veronica Mars: Debasement TapesMay 8, 2007 at 10:21 pm | Posted in TV News, Veronica Mars | Leave a comment
Veronica Mars is such awesome television. I hope some new viewers tuned in to see Paul Rudd’s guest appearance, because this was a fantastic episode.
As expected, Paul Rudd was hilarious playing a rock has-been, and he got to sing! His songs were by Cotton Mather — I caught “Payday” and “My Before and After.” They also sang “Lily Dreams On,” which was used to heartbreaking effect in the season one finale.
Another of Paul’s Wet Hot American Summer costars, Ken Marino, was back as resident asshole Vinnie Van Lowe. Even better, Deputy Leo was back! He’s got a regular gig as assistant to trannie magazine exec Alexis Meade on Ugly Betty. It’s great to see his career taking off, and I hope he’ll be in a few more Veronica Mars episodes before the season finishes.
Refreshingly, this week’s mystery was fun and engrossing, unlike last week’s patriotism sermon. Logan and Mac’s story was fun, too, although I found it pretty unbelievable that the professor stopped Logan’s ass-terpiece presentation. Trust me, college professors love that stuff.
Piz and Veronica were downright cute, and we got some nice angsty Logan moments, so everybody wins! I thought it was all very nicely played — Piz and Veronica are mature enough to get past the weirdness, and Veronica’s on-again, off-again behavior, while not commendable, is very true to life. Logan’s reactions, too — of course he’d be upset if he thought if Piz had started charming Veronica in advance of the breakup. He’d probably be much cooler about her dating some random dude than about her dating a friend. Payback’s a bitch. Well done, show!
