Guess what, folks: with Gilmore Girls out of the way, the chances of renewal for Veronica Mars have gotten a whole lot better! Word from TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello is that network execs liked the proposed fast-forward through college, starting next season with Veronica working for the FBI.
Not sure if I’ve mentioned it yet, but I love this idea. While I love Mac, Wallace, Logan, Dick and even Piz, the college storylines don’t have me begging for more. And they’ve completely ditched the noir vibe. An FBI version would allow them to bring back the noir, and have really sinister villains — something that’s currently hard to do in the college setting. Wallace and Keith could make regular guest appearances. And this would breathe life into the Veronica-Logan romance. They could start the season having been out of touch for years, then reconnect. Sigh. Dreamy.
Plus, an FBI version would give the CW something they desperately need: a true procedural. Every network has a version of CSI, and while Veronica solves weekly mysteries, the teen setting seems to repel some viewers. This new Veronica Mars could appeal to the Crossing Jordan, Bones, and Cold Case crowd.
