Please watch Friday Night Lights

That’s right, I said “please.” Friday Night Lights (the show, not the movie) is wonderful, and it’s tonight at 8 on NBC. Here’s an interview about the show with Scott Porter, who plays Jason Street, the high school’s injured quarterback.

Other reasons to watch:

Kyle Chandler looks smokin’ hot.

Not just a pretty face, Kyle Chandler’s also doing some of his best acting work. The younger actors, including Scott Porter and whoever plays Matt Saracen, are amazing.

It’s got heart. In my favorite moment from last week’s episode, Coach Taylor shows up unexpectedly at his new quarterback’s home to discuss the upcoming game. The poor kid is clearly embarassed about his shabby house, and later that evening, Coach tells him, almost scolding him, that he has nothing to be ashamed of. My description sounds a little sappy, but it doesn’t play that way on screen, because of the wonderful acting.

If you want to catch up on the plot, there are terrific recaps of the first two episodes at Television Without Pity, and NBC has the latest episode available for free online.
