Ratings are for haters

Postponing the Lost discussion for a moment; I watched The Nine last night, and in my opinion, it’s by far the best pilot of the season. I flat-out loved it. There are a lot of questions that need answering: what happened with Jeremy and his girlfriend? How did Eva get shot? What did the suicidal boat guy do to become such a hero? Are Tim Daly and Kim Raver going to hook up? More importantly, I actually care about the answers with this show. The pacing of the flashbacks was perfect, and the introductions to the characters immediately grabbed my sympathy. The Nine and Friday Night Lights are easily this year’s best new dramas.

The problem? Both of these shows got crap ratings. Unlike Veronica Mars, which is somewhat protected by being on a smaller network, both of these shows are in danger of cancellation. So, if you’re at all intrigued by these shows, and you have a Nielsen box, do me a favor and watch next week.

  1. Friday Night Lights was excellent, but I have yet to watch The Nine. I’ll be sure to tune in.

  2. Yay! I’m so glad someone else is watching … that makes two of us!
