Helena Bonham Carter killed Sirius

Warner Bros. confirmed today that Helena Bonham Carter will play Bellatrix Lestrange in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Thank goodness someone in casting is still making rational decisions. (I’m still not over the whole Heath thing.)

In other Hogwarts news, Dumbledore is really dead.  Seriously.  J.K. Rowling said so.  He’s dead.

  1. Seriously, though, how awesome are the HP casting directors? They’ve taken some extremely well written characters and hit every single casting choice out of the park. I mean, Rickman as Snape, Branagh as Lockhart, Oldman as Sirius, Natalia Tena as Tonks . . . the list goes on. Fuck, even Richard Harris dying worked out for them! And now they get the idea of a crazy-ass, Fight Club-era Helena Bonham Carter to play Bellatrix Lestrange? BRILLIANT.

  2. Well, don’t crucify me for saying this, but I didn’t love the casting of Gary Oldman as Sirius. He’s an amazing actor, and did a great job with the role, but Sirius is supposed to be handsome (pre-incarceration), and I just don’t think Gary’s that attractive. Kenneth Branaugh was supposed to be hot, too, and is totally not — but it worked anyway, because his character was an such an ass. But with such a huge cast, I was bound to complain about at least one. Oh — don’t forget Miranda Richardson as Rita Skeeter! She was awesome.
